GPS Tracking

GPS Tracking in FieldPromax shows the real-time location of your service providers on the dispatch map. It helps dispatchers make smarter assignment decisions, verify field attendance, and monitor route efficiency throughout the day.

Before you start:

How to Access

Navigate to DispatchMap from the main menu. Service provider GPS markers appear automatically on the map alongside work order pins.

How GPS Tracking Works on Mobile

When a service provider logs into the FieldPromax mobile app, the app requests permission to access the device's location services. Once granted:

  1. The app collects the device's GPS coordinates at regular intervals in the background.
  2. Location data is sent to the FieldPromax server, where it is stored and made available on the dispatch map.
  3. The map view shows each tracked service provider as a marker at their last known position.
  4. Hovering over a GPS marker displays the provider's name, a "Current Location" label, and the timestamp of the last update.

Real-Time Locations on the Map

On the dispatch map, GPS markers are visually distinct from work order pins. You can identify service providers by their marker and the tooltip that appears on hover. The map auto-refreshes periodically so positions stay current.

Use the Users panel on the right side of the map to filter which service providers' GPS markers are visible. Uncheck a provider to hide their location marker.

Location History

FieldPromax stores a history of GPS coordinates for each service provider. This data is useful for:

  • Route verification — confirm that a provider visited the correct job site.
  • Time tracking — correlate location data with clock-in/clock-out times.
  • Dispute resolution — provide evidence of on-site presence if a customer questions whether the work was performed.

Privacy Settings

GPS tracking is subject to the settings configured by the administrator:

  • Tracking can be enabled or disabled at the company level through Mobile App Settings.
  • Service providers can see in the mobile app whether location tracking is active.
  • Location data collection follows the permission model of the mobile device's operating system. If a service provider denies location permission on their device, the app cannot track their position.
  • Stored location data is automatically cleared after a configurable retention period to respect privacy.

Tip: For the most accurate GPS data, instruct your service providers to select "Allow all the time" (or the equivalent) when the mobile app requests location permission. This enables background tracking even when the app is not actively open.

Using GPS Data for Dispatch Decisions

When you need to assign an urgent job, open the dispatch map to see where each provider currently is. Assign the job to the provider who is closest to the customer's address. The Smart Dispatch feature automates this by factoring GPS proximity into its provider recommendations.
